Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness regarding the demise of two-year-old Ivan Omhonrina, who was killed by a stray bullet during an operation conducted by officers of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement released by his media aide, Dele Alake, on July 18, President Tinubu instructed the NDLEA management to promptly and comprehensively investigate the incident to identify and punish the individuals responsible.
The President urged security agents to exercise greater professionalism and caution when carrying out their operations to avoid endangering the lives of innocent Nigerians.
“I grieve for the loss of little Ivan Omhonrina and extend my sympathies to his parents, who are enduring the painful experience of losing an innocent child in a deeply tragic manner. Ivan did not deserve such a fate. We must ensure that this incident does not go unresolved and that no one else suffers a similar fate as Ivan,” President Tinubu stated.
President Tinubu also offered prayers for the swift recovery of Eronmonsele, who reportedly sustained injuries during this unfortunate event.
The President deemed the incident unacceptable, emphasising the need to identify those responsible for inflicting anguish upon the Omhonrina family and ensuring they face justice.
