Nimbus Media Ltd., a destination out-of-home-advertising company, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) announced on Tuesday a call for applications for the 2023 edition of the Nimbus Aid Project.
20 women-owned businesses will receive over N40 million ($53,681) in advertising on Nimbus screens as part of the initiative for transformative social impact led by Nimbus Media Ltd. A variety of marketing and brand-building assistance from other project partners will also be provided to successful applicants.
Speaking about the collaboration, Dr. Bunmi Kole-Dawodu, the Lagos State Manager for SMEDAN, said, “Our partnership with the Nimbus Aid Project comes as a promising addition to SMEDAN’s plans for the year. Beyond what we have already done, we want to have a big impact on women-owned businesses. We are confident that this collaboration will help us accomplish these goals.
Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) are the backbone of the Nigerian economy, driving innovation, generating employment, and promoting economic diversification. They account for 96% of businesses, 84% of jobs, and 48% of the country’s GDP, according to the International Labour Organisation. These SMEs, especially those with a female lead, however, frequently face obstacles that limit their ability to expand.
Wale Adegoke, CEO of Nimbus Media Ltd., stated, “The Nimbus Aid Project reflects our commitment to driving positive change in our society. We believe in the power of media to uplift businesses and empower voices that need to be heard. By spotlighting women-led businesses through this initiative, we’re not only advancing gender equality but also fueling the engine of economic growth in Nigeria.”
“This year, we are grateful for the support of prominent sponsors, including SMEDAN, LSETF, Marketing Edge Magazine, TechCabal, Techpoint Africa, News Central TV, Hervest, FBN Quest, Carpe Diem Solutions and others who share our vision of unlocking economic opportunities through entrepreneurship and gender equality.”
The Nimbus Aid Project has a long history of having a major influence on businesses. With N35 million in Digital Out-Of-Home (DOOH) advertising since 2016, it has supported 13 organisations, 11 of which are led by women. Beneficiaries have tracked over 2.8 million distinct views of advertising materials thanks to this support in important Nigerian cities.
The 2023 edition is set to expand on this impact by empowering women-led SMEs and laying the groundwork for a more inclusive and economically empowered business landscape. Women-led businesses are encouraged to apply for the Nimbus Aid Project 2023 on the website.
The application deadline is Friday, September 8, 2023.
About The Nimbus Aid Project
Since its inception in 2016, the Nimbus Aid Project has provided financial assistance to businesses and social impact organisations dedicated to creating economic and social opportunities in Nigerian communities. Nimbus Media Ltd, a destination out-of-home advertising agency based in Lagos, is spearheading the initiative.
Previously known as “Nominate A Charity,” Nimbus Aid Project’s mission is to ensure that SMEs and social impact organisations benefit from the reach and credibility that outdoor advertising brings to major brands.
The Nimbus Aid Project has previously benefited organisations like the Headforth Foundation, which offers free and simple access to justice for the poor, MyMedicines, which facilitates last-mile access to reliable and affordable medications throughout Nigeria, and Wadi Africa, a digital platform that links African researchers to the resources they need to conduct ground-breaking research.
