Afro-pop sensation Joeboy, has said goodbye to emPawa Africa, following the launch of his own record “Young Legend” in partnership with Warner Music.
The emPawa record label, owned by Nigerian singer Mr Eazi, signed Joeboy five years ago in 2019.
Joeboy, whose real name is Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa released his first hit song “Baby” in March 2019 under Eazi’s label. The song immediately shot him to prominence. He followed up with other songs including “All for You” “Beginning”, and “Call”.
The 26-year-old singer has had quite a successful career, with two EPs (Love & Light and Body, Soul & Spirit), and two albums (Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic and Body & Soul).
He also has several hit singles and features to his credit. In 2020, Larry Gaga featured him in the song, “Slow Burner.” DJ Neptune also featured him and Mr Eazi on the hit song “Nobody”, released in 2020.
The “Alcohol” crooner has been nominated for many awards in his music career so far. While he lost some, he also won some, including the Best Artiste in African Pop at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards, and Best Pop at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival in 2020.
He was nominated for the Next Rated category at the Headies Awards in 2021, but lost to Rema.
Confirming his exit from emPawa, Joeboy took to his X handle to announce his new journey.
He wrote:
“Dawn of a new era. Young Legend is alive.”
