President Bola Tinubu has named Silas Agara as the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
Agara, a sports administrator previously serving as the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, succeeds Nuhu Fikpo.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said President Tinubu expects an “overhaul of the NDE for optimal performance in designing and implementing programmes to combat mass unemployment.”
The NDE, founded in November 1986 and commenced operations in January 1987, was established to mitigate the aftermath of the 1980s economic recession, which resulted in a significant decline in industrial capacity utilisation and subsequent closure of industries in Nigeria.
