One of the biggest telecommunication companies in Nigeria, MTN has announced a new musical reality television talent show, Y’ello Star, on Sunday, 16 February.
This comes four years after the suspension of the MTN-hosted West African music reality show Project Fame, which produced superstars like Darey, Iyanya, Chidinma, Praiz.
According to MTN Nigeria, this new talent show is created to search for, discover, nurture, expose and launch music talents in young Nigerians.
At the unveiling in Lagos on Sunday, the chief marketing officer for MTN Nigeria, Rahul De revealed that “We know that there are a lot of talented people in Nigeria who need to turn up their musical careers.
“This platform will help launch them to musical heights. We (MTN) have a wealth of experience in supporting Nigerian talent and are confident we can improve on our past successes.”
To enter the competition, interested participants are to record themselves singing or performing and send the video to the organisers through the MyMTN app, social media or the MTN Nigeria website.
A team of judges will then select potential finalists for the regional auditions that will be held in several cities across Nigeria including Abuja, Enugu and Lagos.
The selected finalists will then proceed to the show’s incubation hub in Lagos, where they will be coached by experts in an array of different facets of music production and show business while they compete for the top prize.
This would include a mouth-watering cash prize, a car and a fully-furnished apartment fitted with studio equipment.
