Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo, bringing an end to a two-year vacancy following the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in 2022.
This decision follows extensive consultations and traditional divinations carried out by the Oyomesi, the Oyo kingmakers.
The announcement was made on Friday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade. He expressed hope that Prince Owoade’s reign would bring peace, unity, and prosperity to the historic Oyo Kingdom.
“Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade, after thorough consultations and divinations, has been recommended by the Oyomesi and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo,” the statement read.
The Commissioner also stated that the appointment would resolve the legal and social disputes that arose after the passing of Oba Adeyemi.
The appointment of Prince Owoade puts to rest the controversies that have surrounded the throne since the late Alaafin’s death.
