Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has said he is uncertain whether unsettled striker Marcus Rashford will leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.
Since being dropped for United’s derby victory over Manchester City in December, Rashford has not participated in ten games. The 27-year-old reacted to his exclusion by expressing his readiness for a “new challenge,” which triggered speculation about his potential sale by United before the transfer deadline on February 3.
With reported interest from AC Milan, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea, Rashford remains sidelined, and United manager Amorim is unsure when this matter will be sorted out.
Asked if Rashford could stay at United for the rest of the season, Amorim told reporters: “I don’t know. I really don’t know.
“We will see in the end of the window what happened. And then we will talk about it in that moment.”
Rashford participated in training on Wednesday but observed Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League victory against Rangers from a private box, as Amorim only named nine of the 12 substitutes.
Amorim was also noncommittal about the future of Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, who has attracted interest from Chelsea and Napoli. The 20-year-old featured in the start against Rangers, but Amorim wouldn’t provide any assurances, stating, “Let’s see in the next few days.”
Following last weekend’s 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, Amorim controversially said that United might be “the worst team” in the club’s history after the defeat left them in 13th place on the Premier League table.
The former Sporting Lisbon manager, who took over from the dismissed Erik ten Hag in November, said the criticism was to strengthen his relationship with the players.
