Amusan, Brume Take Nigeria To Grand Podium Finishes In Oregon

Nigerian duo of Tobiloba Amusan and Ese Brume have taken Team Nigeria to podium finishes in the 100mHurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Amusan, who had broken the world record and set a new one in the semifinal when she blasted to 12.12s ran another world record time of 12.06s in the race. Her new time, however, won’t be taken to consideration as it’s thought to be wind-aided.

She became Nigeria’s first ever athlete to set a world record and win a gold medal in the event.

The African record holder and champion had ceaselessly knocked on the door of global dominance up until her achievement as she missed a podium finish at the Olympics by whiskers.

“Amazing, I’m elated, it’s been a journey and I’m thankful to God for keeping me healthy and I’ve come out here with a win and a world record. It’s crazy.

“Coming into the semis, it was a very competitive field so the goal was to execute and survive till the final and seeing the world record and I feel like ‘yes’ but I had to keep my composure till the finals.”

Brume Leaps to Long Jump Silver

Brume won the silver medal in the long jump as she delivered on the world stage yet again.

Her 7.02m missed the gold medal by whiskers but will be content with a place on the medal table for Nigeria.

Nigeria waited for 9 days to win any medal at the event and will go home with two after the final day efforts by two of the best in the country and in Africa.
