Armed thugs on Wednesday attacked #EndSARS protesters at the Berger area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
The thugs, who invaded the protest venue at Berger junction about an hour after the protesters had convened, were armed with cutlasses, sticks and other dangerous weapons.
They chased the protesters and destroyed vehicles parked in the area.
At least five cars were destroyed while an unconfirmed number of the protesters sustained injuries.
The protesters were said to have regrouped within minutes and chased the thugs away.
One of them was caught and beaten to near-death, with serious injuries inflicted on his head and limbs.
The protests, now in its 7th day, which started with demands that the Federal Government disband a rogue police unit in the country, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has since dissolved SARS but demonstrations continued with demands for the police and the federal government to among other things, ensure justice for victims of police brutality and release all arrested protesters.
Yesterday, rights group, Amnesty International, said no fewer than 10 people had been killed by the police since the protests began in the country.
