English actor Bella Ramsey shares that they received an autistic diagnosis.
In a Thursday interview with British Vogue, the “Last of Us” star, who prefers the pronouns they/them, talked candidly about their diagnosis.
Before revealing that they “got diagnosed with autism when I was filming Season 1 of The Last of Us,” Ramsey stated, “I’ve spoken a bit about neurodivergence before, but I always for some reason didn’t want to.”
The publication states that Ramsey sought a mental evaluation after a crew member with an autistic child believed Ramsey also had autism. Additionally, they stated that the diagnosis validated a suspicion Ramsey had “always wondered” about.
Ramsey even revealed that their diagnosis has improved their acting.

“I’ve always observed people and taken notes. Acting has been easier for me because I’ve had to learn more about how to communicate and socialise with others by hand,” they stated.
Having a schedule and a set of guidelines also helps, they noted, stating, “I have a call time, and I’m told what to wear, how to stand, where to stand, and what to eat.”
Overall, Ramsey saw the diagnosis as “freeing” since it “allows me to walk through the world with more grace towards myself regarding not being able to do the easy everyday tasks that everyone else seems to be able to do.”
“As someone with autism, I have experienced how to navigate the world,” they continued. “There is no excuse for people to be unaware.”
Ramsey is most recognised for their role in HBO’s “The Last of Us,” a television series that is based on the well-known video game of the same name and co-stars Pedro Pascal. Ramsey also played Lyanna Marmont in three seasons of “Game of Thrones.” (HBO is a part of Warner Bros. Discovery, just like CNN.)
The second season of “The Last of Us” is scheduled to premiere in April.
