President of Benin, President Patrice Talon has been declared winner of the just concluded Benin’s Presidential Election. Benin’s Constitutional court on Thursday approved the provisional results of this week’s election giving President Patrice Talon a landslide victory after he faced only two little-known opponents.
President Talon won 86.3 percent in the April 11 election even though the election was in his favour with some of his opposition in exile and some disqualified
The Court’s President, Joseph Djogbenou said in a statement that :”The election on April 11, 2021 was regular, sincere and transparent”
According to Djogbenou, the preliminary result has been cleared by the constitutional court, any appeals against the result should be made in the next five days,after which it will approve a definitive tally of ballots
He confirmed results showing Talon had received the absolute majority of votes and was re-elected in the first round.
Justifying his election result, President Talon vowed to crack down perperators of pre-election violence during opposition protests that blocked roads in the country.
