The Blitzboks were crowned Canada Seven champions on Monday morning South African time after a convincing 38-5 victory over Kenya.
Fellow Africans Kenya were no match for the ruthless nature of the Blitzboks who were already 24-0 up at half time en-route to clinching the Canada Sevens.
South African rugby supporters will be waking up to the glorious news of the Blitzboks doing it once again on Canadian soil. It has now become a familiar picture seeing the the teaming posing as winners with the trophy and medals around their necks underneath the Canada Sevens Vancouver banner, having now accomplished that feat twice in the last three years.
Coach Neil Powell who was not able to be in the dugout with the Blitzboks at the Olympics due to Covid-19 isolation, was elated with the team’s perfomance.
“It was amazing just to be out there playing again especially in front of a great crowd. It was great to have two African teams in the final and it’s always a fierce encounter with Kenya.
“I’m really proud of the boys, there’s a lot of youngsters who are the next generation of Springboks sevens (Blitzboks) and they’ve done really well.”
