Local reports indicate that Russian airstrike hits Kharkiv government headquarters in eastern Ukraine.
Confirming the incident, Ukraine’s operational command says Russian forces fired a rocket at the regional administration building in Kharkiv.
Video shows a massive explosion with the building hit directly leaving several vehicles destroyed.
The strike was an attempt to kill Kharkiv’s governor and his team leading the defence of the city, Ukraine’s second largest, Kyiv says. Residents say Kharkiv was targeted again last night and this morning.
In a similar incident, Russian shelling hit maternity hospital near Kyiv, the hospital’s CEO Vitaliy Girin said on Facebook. The maternity hospital is located in the village of Buzova on the Zhytomyr highway where heavy fighting has been ongoing. Everyone in the building has been evacuated.
In the southern Ukranian city of Kherson, Russian troops are said to have surrounded and setting up checkpoints at exits.
“The city is actually surrounded, there are a lot of Russian soldiers and military equipment on all sides, they set up checkpoints at the exits,” Journalist Alyona Panina told Ukrainian 24 TV channel.
The city’s Mayor Igor Kolykhayev also said on Facebook that the “Russia army is setting up checkpoints at the entrances of Kherson”.
