Two people were killed when a single unfinished storey building collapsed on them on Tuesday, July 4 in Amanfrom Assemblies, a suburb of Amanfrom in the Ga South Municipality, Ghana.

The owner of the building in Ghana and another person were said to have died instantly on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred around 1400hrs and killed five people, including the building’s owner, two employees of the Restoration Healthcare and Birth Centre, and two children aged five years each.

When news crews arrived on the scene, an eyewitness reported that the earth shook briefly and passers-by were able to flee, but the victims seated beneath the building were trapped.

The other three seriously injured people were initially taken to the Kasoa Polyclinic but were later transferred to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment.

According to Marcel Kwame Avedo, Municipal Fire Commander D03, Ghana, who spoke to the media, the scene lacked access roads, making it difficult for his team and the ambulance service to rescue the victims.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the building was located in a waterlogged area.

He advised land developers to avoid indiscriminately constructing structures in communities in order to ensure that places designated for road construction were reserved.
