Burkina Faso’s army has killed several militants in the country’s north, along the border with Niger and Mali, security sources have announced.

A “terrorist base” in the tri-border area was located thanks to an intelligence mission, which resulted in the death of “many terrorists and the destruction of vital logistics” and the killing of “several terrorists”.

The country of Burkina Faso, which is presently governed by an interim military government, has made it a major priority to crush extremists everywhere.

In the country’s northeast between March 16 and 17, the army killed a number of insurgents and destroyed their bases.

Meanwhile, in February, a new drive to recruit another 5,000 soldiers to help in the fight against insurgents is began in Burkina Faso, the military government has announced.

Burkina Faso’s Defence Minister Colonel Kassoum Coulibaly said the recruits that will be admitted must be between 20 and 35 years old and be ready to serve in the military for at least five years.
