The military government of Burkina Faso has ordered the UN resident coordinator Barbara Manzi out of the country with immediate effect.
The top UN official in the country declared “persona non grata” and her status, security cannot be guaranteed, the military government said in a release.
Foreign Minister Olivia Rouamba said the UN official’s recent statements warning of impending chaos caused by the insurgents had discredited Burkina Faso and discouraged potential investors.
Nearly two million people have been displaced by the activities of terrorists and insurgent groups.
The insecurity has seen the military stepping in, which resulted in two military coups within a year.
Many of the internally displaced persons live in facilities managed by the United Nations.
