Reports indicate that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has dismissed Amr Fahmy from his role as general secretary of the organization.
The Executive Committee of CAF made the decision during a meeting in Cairo on Thursday, a day before the draws for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Morocco’s Mouad Hajji, who was appointed as CAF’s general coordinator earlier this year, is being tipped to replace Fahmy. It is still unknown the reason behind the dismissal.
Thirty-five year old Amr Fahmy is the son of Mostafa Fahmy who served in the same position for 28 years. His grandfather Mourad served as general secretary of CAF from 1961-1982. Amr succeeded Hicham El Amrani from Morocco who served in this position from October 2010 to March 2017.
