Latest records released by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria for the month of March, reveals that Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel has been a hit movie for the Nigerian box office.
According to box office records, the movie has grossed over N175 million from Nigerian moviegoers since its release on March 8, 2019 with roughly 7,000 viewers on its opening day. That number has since soared, to over 111,000 over the next three weeks.
This means Captain Marvel was the highest grossing movie in Nigeria for the month of March.
In dollar terms, the movie has raked in nearly $500,000 dollars – a paltry sum compared to the over $1 billion the movie has raked in globally.
March’s statistics show the cinema business has made a rebound, following low sales in February.
Overall, Nigerian moviegoers spent N434, 431,431 at the cinemas in March. A notable increase from the N267 million recorded in February.
