Diplomatic relations between China and the US have become tense after Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi warned the US against stepping on China’s “red lines”.
The statement was made in a meeting with US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken in Beijing on Friday.
Wang Yi described China’s red lines as issues bordering on its sovereignty, security and development and warned the US not to step on them.
The meeting is Anthony Blinken’s second visit to China this year on the backdrop of heightened tensions between the two nations. It is reported that behind the scenes the US has warned China against exporting parts to Russia that it claims are responsible for the prolonged war with Ukraine.
According to reports, Mr Wang stated that “the China-US relationship is beginning to stabilise, but it is still being tested by “negative factors.
In his statement to the press, Secretary Blinken mentioned that “Beijing and Washington have a shared responsibility to move ties forward with active diplomacy”.
