CIA Director William Burns, Mossad Chief David Barnea, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani convened with Egyptian officials in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss a potential truce in Gaza, as reported by Egyptian media.

Al-Qahera News, with ties to Egyptian intelligence, highlighted the significance of the “quartet meeting,” amidst escalating international pressure for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Over 28,000 lives have been claimed, according to health officials.

Qatar and Egypt, with U.S. support, have been actively mediating between the conflicting parties. A proposal, initially discussed with Israeli negotiators in Paris last month, has been revisited in ongoing negotiations.

In anticipation of the Cairo discussions’ outcomes, Hamas and other militant factions remain open to initiatives aimed at halting the aggression and conflict. A Hamas official conveyed this stance to AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity due to media authorisation constraints.

Efforts for a ceasefire intensified after warnings from the United States and the United Nations against an Israeli ground offensive into Rafah, the southern Gaza city, where over a million Palestinians reside, trapped in the midst of the conflict.
