The owner of Dangote Refinery, Aliko Dangote, has announced August 2024 as the new date to commence fuel supply in the Nigerian market.
While speaking to journalists on Sunday, Dangote said issues concerning crude supply have been resolved thanks to the intervention of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Nigerian government.
He also mentioned that the fertiliser unit will commence production within two weeks. The development aims to enhance fertiliser access for farmers’ agricultural produce.
“Ramping up production to reach 500 kbpd (15 crude cargoes a month) by next August, 550 kbpd by the end of the year, and 650 kbpd by Q1 2025.
“Gasoline production to commence in July with sales from August,” a” report released by the company stated.
This marked a significant delay in the start of full-scale production at the Dangote Refinery, inaugurated on May 22, 2023.
Previously, Dangote had indicated that the facility would begin supplying fuel in Nigeria by mid-July 2024. In another development, the company disclosed that NNPCL now holds a reduced stake of 7.2% in the refinery, down from the previous 20%.
