Deborah Samuel, Student Killed Over Alleged Blasphemy Buried In Hometown 

Deborah Samuel, the student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education killed over alleged blasphemy has been buried in her hometown.

Samuel was laid to rest on Saturday in Tunga Magajiya, Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.

Her remains were buried at the Christian Cemetery in Tunga Magajiya at about 6:30 p.m according to local reports.

Samuel’s uncle, Emmanuel Maaji, a pastor at the ECWA Church led the prayers at the burial with many left inconsolable as they prayed for the repose of the soul of the dead.

Gory videos of a mob stoning the student to death emerged on Thursday as her irate colleagues and others descended on Samuel uncontrollably and later burnt her to death over making alleged blasphemous statements against Prophet Muhammed.

The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari condemned the incident and called for investigation into the killing of the student.

The Sokoto State government announced a curfew on Saturday after students protested following the arrest of two students linked to the incident.

Samuel’s death has opened wounds into one of Nigeria’s agelong problems as Nigerians call for investigation and prosecution of the student’s killers.
