Defending Champion Carlos Alcaraz Enters Wimbledon Final

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz advanced to his fourth Grand Slam final at Wimbledon on Friday, defeating Daniil Medvedev after coming back from a set down.

World No. 3 Alcaraz overcame his fifth-ranked opponent 6-7 (1/7), 6-3, 6-4, and will face either seven-time champion Novak Djokovic or Lorenzo Musetti for the title on Sunday.

Medvedev twice took the lead with breaks in the first set but was countered by Alcaraz.

Umpire Eva Asderaki warned Medvedev for unsportsmanlike conduct following his foul-mouthed reaction to a ball penalised for bouncing twice in the ninth game.

Asderaki even brought the tournament referee to Centre Court, but Medvedev moved past the controversy to win the tie-break and the first set, committing only eight unforced errors to the Spaniard’s 15.

This was Alcaraz’s third first-set loss at Wimbledon this year.

Alcaraz responded brilliantly, broke Medvedev for a 3-1 lead in the second after winning the previous game on a 27-shot rally.

In the third set, the 21-year-old struck 14 winners and took the only break of the game.

Medvedev, who defeated world number one Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals, secured an early break in the fourth set.

However, Alcaraz persisted, gaining the lead at 4-3 on his way to victory.
