Egypt has confirmed that nationals kidnapped by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Sudan have been freed following coordination between Egyptian and Sudanese authorities.
The Egyptian state news agency (MENA) reported on Thursday that Egyptian officials, under the direction of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, worked closely with Sudanese counterparts to secure the release of the abducted Egyptians.
The freed individuals were transported from central Khartoum to Port Sudan before being safely returned to Egypt.
While MENA did not specify the exact number of those released, local reports suggest that seven Egyptians had been taken hostage since 2023, shortly after the outbreak of the war in Sudan.

Photos shared by the Al-Qahera News channel, which is linked to Egyptian intelligence, showed emotional reunions between the released individuals and their families.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF has been ongoing since April 2023, resulting in significant casualties and displacement.
The UN reports more than 20,000 deaths and approximately 15 million displaced persons.
Neither the Sudanese army nor the RSF have commented on Egypt’s announcement. Egypt has consistently supported Sudan’s official government and called on the RSF to cease its insurgency against the state.
