Elon Musk, the world’s second-richest person and the owner of Tesla and Twitter, is apparently keeping an eye on takeover speculation at Manchester United. The internet mogul, who is worth an estimated £157 billion, is thought to be keeping an eye on happenings at Old Trafford ahead of a bid deadline set by the Glazer family for Friday, February 17.
The Musk camp has not issued a formal statement regarding his alleged interest in a possible move for the Premier League powerhouse, but the Daily Mail claims that he is.
It is reported that dozens of interested parties have signed confidential agreements granting them access to United’s data room for information regarding a potential takeover.
Saudi Arabian and American groups are thought to be interested, with Qatar also showing considerable interest.
Elon Musk has hinted in the past that he would like to buy United, claiming on Twitter in August 2022 amid protests against the Glazers that he was buying Manchester.
Although the remarks were made in jest, the 51-year-old South African-born business billionaire later added, “Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid.”
