Ethiopia Intensifies Search for Hundreds of Jailbreakers (News Central TV)

Security forces and prison authorities in Ethiopia’s Oromia region are intensifying the search for about 480 prisoners who escaped following a jail break.

A local official said the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA ) were liable for the attack which occurred several days ago and left five police officers dead. The OLA is yet to respond to the allegation.

The deputy mayor of Bule Hora city said that some of the inmates were members of the OLA.

While international attention has focused on the peace deal in Tigray in northern Ethiopia, the security situation continues to deteriorate in parts of Oromia.

In the past, militant groups have claimed to have released ”political prisoners” from other jails in the populous region of Oromia home to Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed.
