Sibhat Nega, 86-year old top Tigrayan leader has been captured by Ethiopian forces.
Nega, one of the founding leaders of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front was arrested alongside nine other TPLF members and they have since been taken to Addis Ababa, the country’s capital.
Nega is one of the leading voices in Tigray and his arrest may not be unconnected with the quest to arrest the current TPLF leaders.
Nega cuts different opinions in Ethiopia with Tigrayan locals identifying him as a hero while Amharas, Somalis and others from the Horn of Africa have accused him of destabilising the region.
Ethiopian forces are still in hunt for TPLF leaders, despite accusations of rape and destruction of properties in the region.
A section of the country has accused Ethiopian forces of suppressing the freedom of Tigrayans, while many locals have gone on protests to different offices in the world.
Ethiopian soldiers have been in Tigray for the past 67 days.
