FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura has proposed the use of “spiritual leaders” to assure Sadio Mane’s fitness for the World Cup.
Mane’s World Cup chances were jeopardised after he was pulled off hurt for Bayern Munich earlier this week. The 30-year-old hobbled off 20 minutes into Bayern’s demolition of Werder Bremen on Monday and has already been ruled out of the club’s weekend clash with Schalke. Samoura has argued that Senegal’s star player must travel to Qatar despite scans revealing a tibia problem.
“We are going to use spiritual leaders,” the FIFA Secretary General told Europe 1. “I don’t know [if they’re effective] but in this instance, we’re going to use them anyway. We are hoping for miracles. He has to be there!
He is the face of Senegal’s squad and is anxious to add a World Cup appearance to his Africa Cup of Nations title.
