Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Inter Milan was halted on Sunday after midfielder Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch. The 22-year-old, who is on loan from Roma, suddenly fell to the ground while attempting to remove his boot with 16 minutes played.
Players and spectators watched in shock as Bove was quickly attended to and rushed to an ambulance. Some players were visibly emotional, and the match, which was goalless at the time, was suspended. Reports suggest the game may be rescheduled for a later date.
The incident brings back painful memories for Roma fans, recalling a similar situation in April when defender Evan Ndicka collapsed during a match at Udinese. Ndicka later recovered after it was revealed he had suffered a collapsed lung, not a heart attack.
Fiorentina and Inter were both level on 28 points going into the match, just behind leaders Napoli, who triumphed 1-0 over Torino earlier in the day. In 2018, Fiorentina tragically lost their captain Davide Astori, who died in his sleep before a match in Udinese.
