In a landmark event that underscores Nigeria’s economic and infrastructural progress, First Bank has officially flagged off construction of its state-of-the-art, 40-storey eco-friendly headquarters in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos.
A statement by the Bank on Wednesday described the building as a significant milestone and an ambitious project set to be an engineering and environmental delight due to its technologically advanced, eco-friendly and sophisticated construction that would set a new standard for the financial services sector in Africa.
The event had in attendance many dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima; Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun; Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa; Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote; Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Former Delta Stae Governor, James Ibori among others.
Speaking at the launch, the Chairman of First Bank, Femi Otedola, highlighted First Bank’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence, reassuring stakeholders of the Bank’s enduring legacy and forward-looking strategies.
“To our dear customers and stakeholders of the bank, we must constantly remind ourselves that First Bank is and will continue to be a legacy to behold. We shall continue to invest in cutting-edge technology, vibrant human capital, partnerships, and customer-centric innovations that will define banking globally, even as we deepen our footprints across Nigeria.”
He also lauded the monumental achievement of Gilbert and Renaud Chagoury in shaping Nigeria’s infrastructural landscape for the creation of the Eko Atlantic City, which he placed among the world’s most ambitious infrastructural projects.

“I have personally themed the creation of Eko Atlantic City as the ninth wonder of the world, coming right after the eighth wonder, the Dangote Metropolitan City. These two wonders continue to reaffirm my faith that Nigeria is indeed a great nation.” Otedola said.
During the ceremony, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, presented a certificate of approval to FirstBank Group to commence construction of its eco-friendly headquarters in Eko Atlantic City.
