Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu launched a support scheme for the elderly in Rivers state on Wednesday, January 17. The first lady extended cash donations of N100,000 each to 250 elderly citizens in the state.
The cash gifts were presented to beneficiaries by the wife of Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara who stood in the capacity of Senator Remi Tinubu.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Lady Valerie quoted the first lady, saying the initiative was “aimed at enhancing inclusiveness among Nigerians” as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She added that President Tinubu was determined to better the lives of the elderly citizens by extending support through economic empowerment schemes.
Her words:
“This was borne out of the commitment and the determination of the president’s agenda towards supporting the aged and the elderly, to enable them engage in productive ventures.
“We are fully committed and determined to improve the welfare of the aged and the elderly citizens.

“This scheme was to support 250 vulnerable elderly citizens, aged 65 and above.
“This was also to cushion the effect of the economic situation as well as alleviate the economic hardship being experienced by our esteemed elders.
“I urge you to embrace life to the fullest, prioritise your health, nurture your minds and strengthen your bonds with loved ones and with God.
“We would empower millions of families, while training would be provided for farmers on how to access fertilizers, seedlings and equipment to boost agricultural productivity,” the First Lady said.
President Bola Tinubu last years, said the Renewed Hope Agenda was established to curtail unemployment, boost the economy, reduce poverty, and leave no one behind while achieving these goals.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda of my administration is defined by our commitment to unleashing our country’s full economic potential, by focusing on job creation, access to capital for small and large businesses, inclusiveness, the rule of law, and the fight against hunger, poverty and corruption,” the President said.
