Mauritius: Flights Cancelled As Tropical Storm Hits (News central TV)

Flights and public transportation in Mauritius have been disrupted as a result of a tropical cyclone warning. According to the country’s Meteorological Services, a very intense tropical cyclone Freddy was centred about 275 km to the north-east of Mauritius at 07:00, moving west at a speed of 30km/h (18mph). Wind gusts near its centre were estimated to be around 300 km/h.

“On this trajectory, Freddy continues to dangerously approach Mauritius and represents a direct threat,” it said.

The weather agency advised people not to go to the sea and to take all precautions and stay in safe places.

Air Mauritius, the country’s national carrier, has cancelled at least 18 flights, including several services scheduled to fly from Sunday to Tuesday.

Tropical cyclone Freddy triggered a class III warning on the Indian Ocean island, and weather conditions are expected to worsen further this afternoon.
