Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has lost his mother, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed Bawa.
She passed away on Wednesday night in Sokoto.
Although details surrounding her death remain unclear, it was confirmed that she died at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) in Sokoto.
Bawa confirmed the news but did not provide further information about her illness or the cause of death.
Funeral arrangements have been made to transport her remains to Jega in Kebbi State, where her burial will take place according to Islamic rites.
The funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 2:30 pm.
Abdurrasheed Bawa made history in 2021 when he became the first civilian to be appointed as the substantive Chairman of the EFCC, an anti-corruption agency responsible for tackling financial crimes in Nigeria.
His appointment was confirmed by the National Assembly, and he held the position until July 2023, when President Bola Tinubu suspended him from office.
