The Gambia is set to host the upcoming West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A U17 AFCON qualifier for the boys’ category from October 20 to November 3, 2024. Additionally, The Gambia will also host the WAFU Zone A U15 boys’ and girls’ qualifiers from October 4 to 6, 2024.
Looking back, the CAF African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) commenced at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in Nouakchott, Mauritania, over the weekend. The event is being hosted by the WAFU A CAF Zonal Union. This innovative initiative by CAF, focusing on school football, is in its second season following the successful 2022/23 edition, which engaged nearly 800,000 school-going boys and girls across Africa.
Five nations are currently competing for the WAFU A ticket to the Finals, where the champions in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions will be decided, is scheduled for Monday, March 3.
Before the start of the competition, CAF conducted various workshops aimed at capacitating future African leaders. These workshops included a CAF-accredited D Licence coaching course, Young Medical Officers Workshop, Young Reporters Workshop, Young Referees Workshop, and a CAF Safeguarding workshop. The goal was to equip learners and educators with the necessary skills to build a better future for themselves, both on and off the field.
The tournament commenced with great success, showcasing youth football talent over the next three days, with aspiring footballers utilising the platform to display their skills and abilities.
