On Wednesday, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, endorsed Felix Morka, the APC’s beleaguered National Publicity Secretary.
Ganduje characterised as false statements made by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, which he said encouraged his internet followers to harass Morka.
He made this revelation in a statement that he signed.
His explanation was made just hours after the APC spokesman said that 200 death threats were sent to him and his family because of his provocative comments made by pro-Obi supporters.
Morka said that Obi’s claim that his comments in a Sunday interview on Arise Television amounted to a threat to the Labour Party candidate’s life set off the threats.
Morka’s earlier Sunday interview caused a stir when he claimed that Obi “deserved whatever came his way” and accused Obi of “crossing the line” in criticising President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Obi tweeted after his divisive comments, asking Nigerians if he had gone too far in trying to hold Tinubu’s government responsible.
Morka said Wednesday that he was being stalked by Obi’s followers, who allegedly sent 400 threats, 200 of which were death threats.”There are serious repercussions from Peter Obi’s claims that my words in that interview threatened his life,” he stated.
“Approximately 200 of the 400 threats I have recorded so far are direct threats of death. I shall be sending these written threats to law enforcement organisations.
“People have described in these messages their plans to hurt me, including threats to shoot me, decapitate me, and do other heinous crimes. This goes beyond rhetoric. Some of my family members have even been the target of direct threats as a result. These are not ambiguous hints; rather, they are clear and vivid threats.
“This whole situation is unfounded and cannot be attributed to me.” In no way did I threaten Peter Obi. Although the people making these threats are operating independently, I have faith that law enforcement will move quickly to apprehend them.”
On Wednesday, Ganduje, who backed Morka, charged Obi with organising an online mob against the ruling party.
The former governor of Kano State stated, “Mr Obi has been severely libelled by his false accusation that Morka threatened his life, and his online supporters have been prompted to threaten Morka and his family with death.”
Morka’s remarks during the interview were solely in reaction to a query that referred to “voodoo economics” and “prophets of doom.” His remarks made no mention of or implied any threat to Obi or anybody else.”Is Mr Obi assuming that the APC will back down and let the opposition spread lies without taking any action?” Ganduje asked.
