According to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the truce and hostage arrangement between Israel and Hamas “must hold” as negotiations on a second phase of the pact begin in Cairo on Friday.

Crowds cheered, chanted, and honked car horns as two buses carrying the prisoners arrived in Beitunia following their release as part of the Gaza ceasefire deal that began on January 19 and saw three Israeli hostages freed by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

“The agreement on hostage release and ceasefire must be upheld. The next several days are crucial. “The parties must do everything in their power to prevent this agreement from falling apart,” Guterres told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York.
