Laadi Ayii Ayamba, a member of the ECOWAS Parliament has called for a unified law across the ECOWAS sub-region to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage.
Laadi Ayamba while speaking to a cross-section of newsmen in Monrovia, Liberia at the ECOWAS parliament delocalized meeting, urged member states to act against the vices against women and girls.
She took a swipe at Heads of ECOWAS member states who have refused to implement a thirty-five per cent affirmative action for women, saying many of them have refused to fulfil their promises to their countrywomen despite their victory and pledges made during their polls.
Research has shown that Child marriage is a common harmful traditional practice (HTP) in Ghana and this has caused a disproportionate amount of violence against girls.
