The Gombe State Executive Council in Nigeria has approved a total of N4.205 billion to pay gratuities to 2,204 retirees from the state service.
Following a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting chaired by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau announced that the funds are intended to settle gratuities for retirees who served between 2019 and 2020.
Jatau stated that since assuming office in 2019, their administration has prioritized clearing outstanding gratuities. Having resolved previous backlogs, they are now focusing on 2,204 retirees from 2019 to 2020, with N4.205 billion allocated for their payments. To date, they have disbursed a total of N17.235 billion in gratuities.
He elaborated on the administration’s efforts, highlighting that gratuities owed from 2014 to 2018 were settled using N8.571 billion, benefiting 5,658 retirees.
In addition, he noted that local government retirees have also been catered for, stating, “A total of 6,027 local government retirees have received N4.9 billion in payments from the government.”
The initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to honoring its obligations to retirees and ensuring financial security for those who dedicated their service to the state.
