Gombe Police Apprehends Counterfeit Currency Syndicates

Nigeria’s Gombe State Police Command has successfully apprehended two syndicates involved in the production and circulation of counterfeit dollars and naira. A total of 56,000 counterfeit dollars and 265,000 counterfeit naira were seized from 16 suspects.

Addressing the media in Gombe, the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, revealed that 12 suspects were arrested in Bajoga, Funakaye LGA, and Dukku.

The first syndicate, consisting of six suspects, was apprehended in Bajoga, where they were found in possession of counterfeit 100 Dollar bills and 265,000 Naira. The arrests were initiated after a suspect attempted to use a counterfeit N1,000 note at a chemist in Bajoga.

The arrested individuals include Buba Muhammadu (45yrs male), Jungudo Muhammadu (53yrs male), Adamu Yusuf Mallum (30yrs), Abdulhamid Abdullahi (60yrs male), Salihu Abdulhamid (50yrs male), and Abubakar Abdullahi (35yrs male).

The second syndicate, comprised of six suspects, was arrested in Malala Village, Dukku Local Government Area, with 63 pieces of counterfeit 100 US Dollar bills.

The suspects from the second syndicate are Haruna Adamu (60yrs male), Garba Ibrahim (25yrs male), Samaila Musa (30yrs male), Sa’adu Muhammed (23yrs male), Yusuf Abdullahi (30yrs male), and Muhammadu Umaru (26yrs male).

All suspects have confessed to the crime and will face legal consequences as they are charged in court. ASP Abubakar urged the public in Gombe State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.
