Google Implements Layoffs Across Multiple Teams and Leadership Changes

Google has revealed advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features during the Bett ed-tech event in the UK, aiming to improve classroom management, accessibility, and the creation of questions and lesson plans.

Currently, Google allows teachers to integrate questions into YouTube videos within classroom assignments. The company plans to leverage AI to suggest questions at different timestamps, enhancing the user experience.

Google highlighted the accessibility of the Practice Sets feature, utilising AI to generate answers and general hints, now available in over 50 languages. Educators can also transform a Google Form into a practice set.

To streamline organisation, Google is introducing a new Resources tab for managing practice sets and interactive questions posed during a video. The Duet AI tool within Google Workspace will assist teachers in developing lesson plans.

The Classroom updates include features enabling teachers to create and manage groups, assign diverse tasks to each group, and utilise the speaker spotlight in Slides for narrated lessons with slides.

Educators can now easily gather signatures for approvals or contracts using the eSignature feature within Google Workspace.

The tech giant is enhancing Classroom analytics, allowing educators to analyse statistics such as assignment completion and grade trends.

On the accessibility front, Google is introducing the ability to extract text from PDFs for screen readers on ChromeOS. Additionally, Chrome browser users can now highlight and have text read aloud.

For Google Meet, the company is implementing features such as closed captions in 30 languages and the capability to pin multiple hosts.
