In Guinea, a security officer who killed a 19-year-old has been given a 10-year jail term. During protests against the opposition alliance last June, Moriba Camara fatally shot Thierno Mamadou Diallo.
The victim’s sibling reportedly complained that the court’s lighter sentence of 10 years was inappropriate for the crime for which the prosecution had asked for a longer 25-year prison term for Camara.
The military has been in charge of Guinea since 2021 after ousting the previous president Alpha Condé in a coup.
The powerful FNDC opposition alliance, which had organised earlier demonstrations against Mr. Condé and the newly installed military rulers, was outlawed by the junta in August of last year.
