Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated Sunday that Washington has “no authority” to control its foreign policy, following US President Donald Trump’s call for Tehran to stop aiding the Huthi rebels in Yemen.
Araghchi urged the US to halt the “killing of Yemeni people” in a post on X, saying, “The United States Government has no authority, or business, dictating Iranian foreign policy.”
Trump insisted that Tehran’s support “must end immediately” after declaring on Saturday that Washington had taken “decisive and powerful military action” to defeat the Huthi rebels in Yemen’s danger to Red Sea shipping.
The rebels are a component of the “axis of resistance” of pro-Iranian organisations that are adamantly opposed to both Israel and the United States. They have ruled over a large portion of Yemen for over ten years.

Throughout the Gaza conflict, the Huthis have targeted Red Sea ships and Israel.
According to Iran’s top diplomat, the Islamic revolution that overthrew the Western-backed shah in 1979 marked the end of Washington’s ability to control Tehran’s foreign policy.
The United States has launched its first strikes against the Huthis in Yemen since Trump took office again in January.
According to Huthi forces, at least 21 people—including children—had been killed.
