Palestinian officials have reported that at least 30 people died and over 100 were injured when an Israeli airstrike hit a school in Deir-al Balah, central Gaza, where thousands were sheltering on Sunday.
The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted a Hamas command centre inside the compound.
Most victims brought to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital were women and children, according to Dr. Khalil Al-Daqran.
A CNN footage showed the hospital overwhelmed with casualties, with bodies on the floor and many children among the dead.
The strike followed new evacuation orders in Khan Younis, where recent Israeli offensives killed dozens of Palestinians.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) warned residents of upcoming operations, urging them to move to a designated humanitarian area.
Fighting in Gaza has persisted for months, with Israel struggling to eliminate Hamas.
Recent IDF operations reportedly killed around 100 militants. The United Nations (UN) reported that about 150,000 people fled Khan Younis in a single day, straining resources and shelter options.
Israel’s military action began on October 7 after a Hamas attack on southern Israel, which killed 1,200 people and led to the abduction of over 250 others.
Since then, Israeli strikes have killed 39,258 Palestinians and injured 90,589, with nearly 2 million displaced, according to the UN.
