Cape Verde also defeated Cameroon 3-1 in Praia but will have to finish the job in their last game, with Rwanda breathing down their necks.
Senegal who have already advanced to the continental showpiece played out a goalless draw against AFCON-chasing Republic of Congo in Brazzaville.
Congo will have to wait until the final day of the qualifiers to know where they stand, although, their fate is in their hands.
