Jubilee Party’s Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, was involved in a road accident at the Magina area on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway on Wednesday morning when his vehicle collided with a 14-seater commuter van. He was in the company of his bodyguard and driver at the time of the grisly accident and was en route to Kabarak to attend the burial of former late President, Daniel arap Moi.
According to the Central police commander, Patrick Lumumba, the commuter van, popularly referred to as matatus in Kenya, had swerved to avoid hitting the car in front of it, which had stopped abruptly. As a result, it collided head-on with Tuju’s vehicle, a black Toyota Prado. Police later towed the wrecked vehicles to the nearby Lari Police Station
“The driver says he was avoiding another car when he collided with the other car carrying Tuju. Those injured are in hospital,” Lumumba said.
Along with passengers from the van, Tuju was transferred to Kijabe hospital for treatment. He was thereafter airlifted to Nairobi in a police helicopter.
