Gunmen launched an attack on a police checkpoint along the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway in Ebonyi state on Thursday.
They razed a patrol vehicle and reportedly killed one police officer and abducted another during the attack. However, this information could not be independently verified at the time of reporting.
The incident occurred at Ishieke junction, located on the outskirts of Abakaliki town.
Police spokesperson in Ebonyi, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack but stated that details were still sketchy and unclear. He also denied knowledge of any fatalities or abductions.
This incident comes few weeks after four police officers and two civilians were killed at a checkpoint located at hilltop junction in the state.
