Kenya Airways, one of Africa’s prominent airlines, has reported an operating profit in 2023, marking the first such occurrence since 2017.
Chairman Michael Joseph hailed the $80 million surplus as a significant milestone, as reported by the AFP news agency. The airline’s success can be attributed in part to a substantial increase in revenue, propelled by a surge of over 50% in passenger numbers.
Kenya Airways, partially government-owned, has grappled with significant debts and endured severe challenges stemming from the COVID pandemic in recent years.

“These figures highlight the airline’s remarkable performance over the year and provide encouraging signs of continued recovery within the air transportation sector,” remarked Mr. Joseph in a statement quoted by AFP.
