On Monday, the Kenyan Aviation Workers Union announced that workers from Kenya Airways and Kenya Airports Authority plan to strike starting from August 19 due to concerns about a proposed investment from an Indian company, Adani Airport Holdings, at the main airport in Kenya.
“We shall reconsider our intention to engage in industrial action only if Adani Airport Holdings Limited’s deal is abandoned in its entirety,” said Moss Ndiema, Head of the Kenya Aviation Workers Union.
The potential strike is expected to cause significant disruptions to Kenya’s national airline, Kenya Airways, and the operations of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, which is a crucial travel hub in Africa
The investment proposal from Adani Airport Holdings, which was reviewed by Kenya’s Airports Authority last month, involved plans for a second runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
