After visiting Dakar as part of an African tour, Ukraine‘s Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba received little media coverage in Senegal.
“The key topic of the minister’s negotiations will be the consolidation of political support for Ukraine from the countries of the global south against the background of Russian aggression, in particular the latest attempt to annex Ukrainian territories,” Kuleba had said.
The Senegalese foreign minister, Aissata Tall Sall, and the Ukrainian diplomat met and signed a number of bilateral cooperation agreements.
After Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s top diplomat, visited the continent in July, Kuleba is reportedly on a counteroffensive trip in preparation for Ethiopia’s hosting of the second Russia-Africa summit in 2019.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, has reached out to African leaders numerous times to urge them to denounce Russia for invading his nation.
A number of business forums with the participation of leading Ukrainian and African companies are also to be held as part of the visit.
The minister’s tour will also be part of preparations for holding a large-scale Ukraine-Africa conference.
