The Lagos State Police Command has taken action against two police officers who were involved in an unlawful operation that led to the death of a civilian.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokesperson on Saturday, the officers, whose identities were not disclosed, were part of the State Taskforce.

They conducted an unauthorised mission on Wednesday alongside civilians, which led to an altercation with motorcyclists, resulting in the death of one civilian.

SP Hundeyin stated that disciplinary measures have been initiated against the detained police officers.

He added that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the civilian collaborators involved in the incident.

The Police Spokeperson emphasised that investigations are actively ongoing to identify all individuals responsible for this regrettable incident and ensure they face legal consequences.

The Lagos State Police Command further reiterated its commitment to upholding lawful conduct among its personnel and ensuring accountability for any misconduct or illegal activities.

“Two police officers attached to the Lagos State Taskforce on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 went on illegal duty, taking some civilians with them to shore up their number. They came under attack from motorcycle riders, resulting in the death of one of the civilians.”

“While disciplinary actions have commenced on the already detained police officers, search is on for their civilian accomplices.

“Investigations have commenced to identify, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this dastardly act,” Hundeyin said in the statement shared on X.
